Drinking with Skeletons

The Monthly Zest - June 2025

Unemployment summer vacation continues! I had a very busy June, both in terms of the job hunt and reminding myself to take a break and do some fun stuff!

My goal this summer is to take a break from traveling and explore fun (and cheap) things to do locally, plus just get outside more. I also started therapy and twice a week yoga classes at my gym, so it's been really nice to be active again both physically and mentally!

Much of June was spent visiting friends from all over the state and trying out new restaurants. The highlight by far was Oleana. They're a super famous Mediterranean spot in Cambridge and we finally remembered to put in a reservation to go. We got a bunch of small plates that were all insanely good and really delicious cocktails too. Then afterwards we got nightcaps and a hot dog tower at Trina's lmao

I also spent an evening down in Providence, one of my favorite cities to visit. We got dinner and drinks at Lucky Enough which had surprisingly great bahn mi, then wrapped up at Ogie's Trailer Park which quickly became one of my new favorite bars in the area. Great vibes, great outdoor seating and really good munchies too.

Honorable restaurant mentions:

For fun local Boston stuff, I spent a day at the Museum of Fine Arts (courtesy of a library pass) to check out the newly renovated Asian art wing. Also took a walk through the Elmendorf Grand Prix which was super cool but the lines were way too long to actually buy anything sadly.

I also did two really fun events with the Boston Gaymers for Pride Month! The first was a retro game night in Cambridge. Ended up teaching a lot of people how to play Street Fighter Third Strike which was really cool. The other one was a one-shot tabletop RPG session. Here I played a legit Dungeons and Dragons game for the first time ever. It was a little intimidating at first because of the rules and the role-playing but everyone at my table was really cool and the game was so much fun. Would definitely consider playing again!

Pinball league wrapped up for the season. I did pretty well and even qualified for my venue's minifinals which is tonight. We'll see how I do! Next month they're hosting an all night tournament which I'm extremely excited for. Should be a good time!

Finally to wrap up the month I saw one concert, which was the rescheduled Godspeed You Black Emperor show at Roadrunner. They sounded excellent and I really loved their visuals running on old school projectors. See you next month for more zest!
