I bought one of those fancy new iPhones last weekend. Not the Duo those are too expensive and I really don't like foldable smartphones. I upgraded my 14 pro to an 18 pro and I am very pleased with it so far. The battery life was what I mostly wanted it for and it excels in that front. The fast charging is amazing and it really just lasts!! I'm a heavy phone user I'll admit and my 14 pro just wasn't up to the task. The new cameras I haven't messed with too much yet but the zoom lens is really good and I very much appreciate a dedicated shutter button. The only complaint I have is just the AI stuff. I'll keep this short because god knows bearblog doesn't need more posts about AI but the new siri voice for it has that horrible chatgpt cadence and most of the features like the message summarization I don't really want or need. But besides that phone good.
The funny thing about actually buying it was the guy at the apple store recommended that I wait until I get home before I restore an icloud backup because it takes a long time sometimes so I was like ok! But the afternoon I picked up the phone, my friend invited me to check out a nearby brewery's octoberfest so of course I was like hell yeah. I stopped at a cafe for lunch and to try and do the backup off their wifi but long story short I couldn't do it because my icloud password was saved in a manager that I couldn't access so I had an almost useless new phone for most of the day. I could get on safari at least to find my way to the brewery but it made me think about how reliant we are on phones these days for basically everything. That being said it was kind of nice to not be able to use it for an afternoon LOL. Octoberfest was fun I had a lot of beer and hung out with my friend.
Saw the new Resident Evil movie on Friday with a big group of friends. Theater was packed but we were able to get 8 seats. I really really loved it!! Was the perfect amount of both scary and funny. Good crowd too we were all laughing a lot. I never saw Barbarian or Weapons but I did watch a lot of Whitest Kids U Know back in high school so I'm somewhat familiar with Zach Cregger but now I want to watch those at some point. Tickets went on sale for the street fighter movie apparently so I have to figure out what I want to do for that soon. It probably won't be as good but I can dream.
Was up on the seacoast on Sunday for a pre-wedding party for an old childhood friend who's getting married and who's wedding I have to miss because my other friend's wedding is the same day. Got a nice beach walk in despite the rainy weather and had fun catching up with everyone. My friend's fiancee is a big foodie and lives near us so he was dishing out a ton of recs that I have to check out now and I might have convinced the two of them to come to pinball sometime so we'll see!!
Also I finally fixed my record player that was playing too fast and that I was just sucking it up and listening to everything nightcore for longer than I'd like to admit. Was a pretty easy fix too...
