I forgot today was Monday so here I am on the couch 10:48 pm writing my weeknotes! This was a Gamer week because Forza Horizon 6 came out (probably my most anticipated new game of the year?) and I did put a bunch of time into it. I'm enjoying it a lot, they streamlined a lot of things from Forza Horizon 5 which I appreciated and the new Japan map is very fun to explore. Definitely a lot of Place, Japan moments like how one of the first races you do is in Shirakawa-go and Nathan and I were pogging and pointing at the computer like Omg we've been there. It didn't look totally accurate to the real thing but it's a video game so whatever. Very funny how wide the roads are in the game compared to real life. GREAT soundtrack too. My only gripes are the really poor unskippable cutscenes and they really shove this customizable character in your face all the time that they don't have any non-ugly options for. I couldn't even give my character a beard. He just wears a racing helmet now lol. Will probably be my game of the summer.
Speaking of Gamer Shit I saw Mortal Kombat II after work on Wednesday (thank you AMC half price Wednesdays). Great movie I thoroughly enjoyed it. Mortal Kombat is one of those things I like in theory because it's a goofy kung fu movie pastiche but actually playing the video games kinda sucks. The movies though are a different story. I have a soft spot for the 90s MK movie and I did enjoy the one they did a few years ago but this new one is so much better. I won't spoil too much but they severely cut down the weird audience insert character subplot from the last one and they seem less afraid to adapt the source material and give us a lot of stupid and fun fight scenes. It was a good time. The guy in front of me was having the time of his life and he was like fist pumping and clapping whenever anyone got a limb ripped off.
It's been kind of a crummy long weekend weatherwise up here but still went out pretty much every day. Went downtown to a vintage clothing market with some friends on Saturday - didn't buy clothes but ended up getting a bunch of records (the actual clothing purchase was done the day before at the new Uniqlo that opened up downtown because I needed to replace some jeans I don't fit into anymore). Napped a lot and spent some time with fwb at this cute little restaurant near his place on Sunday. And today got brunch and dinner with some friends. I think I had maybe one meal at home this whole long weekend but whatever I gotta treat myself more! I can go a little over budget this month my contract got extended for another year lol. Maybe I'll do a post about money stuff someday. After I do my Ireland trip post which I still haven't started yet lol. And I want to do a FF14 screenshot post. Someday!!!
