Drinking with Skeletons

04.08.2026

I'm two days late on this SORRY. I had a goal to finish this monday before I went to go meet up with the guy I've been seeing and I was gonna finish it yesterday but then I ended up playtesting a card game my friends were working on. And of course today I went out with my coworkers after work but finally it is 8:30 pm on wednesday and I'm writing my freaking blog post.

So my big thing this week is that after a couple years of saying I'm going to do it and getting scared at the prospect of spending more than $100 at once I finally bought a bass. And honestly I'm glad I waited and was picky about it because I think the one I got is perfect:

TheBass

It's a intro level Ibanez bass but I'm obsessed with the colorway and it was only $150 from a guy on Craigslist who bought it, played it for 20 minutes and never touched it again so it was basically brand new. Eventually I'll have to get an amp for it but for right now, just messing around on it is perfect.

So far I've just been learning songs on it and mostly trying to acclimate my fingers to the feeling of playing a string instrument. I can only play for like 20 minutes at a time before my hands start to hurt and I have to take a break. It felt extra bad at the rock climbing gym on Saturday where my hands got tired faster than usual lol. My callus hobbies... I'll probably want to do actual lessons at some point since I don't really like learning off of Youtube. But that'll be for another time.

Other than that I've been keeping my streak going of doing something after work pretty much every day. Went to a friend's place for dinner one night, got lunch and ice cream with a friend when I had the day off, went to a party at my pinball spot, and did a little shopping trip. It's good for me to be doing things like this because for example on Easter sunday I had nothing going on (family either working or 1000 miles away) so I basically just sat around and looked at the screens of various devices until it was time to go to bed which was not great.

I like feeling regulated and keeping a schedule of fun stuff is the best thing I have to keep me regulated. Ok that's all I have for now see you next week.
