Drinking with Skeletons

02.24.2026 (Canada edition)

Forgot to post my weeknotes yesterday because I ended up being actually busy at work after my time off and after work I played Halo and Overwatch with friends for like 5 hours lol. I actually have exciting stuff to write about this week because I finally took a vacation and trekked up to the Blue Mountains in Ontario for a snowboarding trip with some friends.

We mixed it up a little bit this year, still staying on the resort but staying in a smaller room that's in the ski village vs. the big condo on the edge of the resort we had last time. That was definitely the better call since we were right at everything and didn't have to lug our boards for 15 minutes to get to the lift. Also the view from the balcony over the village didn't feel real.

I do gotta vent about the weather/traveling in the winter though. It SUCKED!!! Wednesday there was a big snowstorm in Ontario and my friend and I were able to both land at the airport before the storm started, but then we had the arduous task of driving a rental Toyota Corolla through that snowstorm two hours north to the mountain. And honestly it was probably the scariest drive I've ever been on and I've driven through snowstorms before in worse cars! We had to stop at a Tim's halfway for an hour to just decompress but thankfully the second half of the drive was much easier than the first. The Corolla was a tank and we only really had one scary slip moment but I think the actual terrifying part was that if something happened and we got stuck there was literally no one else on the road and we were basically in super rural Ontario. Of course we did get stuck the moment we got into the resort and pulled into their driveway though lmao. It also rained all day Friday and the mountain conditions were very rough so we lost a day of snowboarding and it snowed again on the drive back to the airport. So all that and coming home to a blizzard makes me not want to travel in the winter again (unless it's to somewhere very warm).

Despite the weather it was still a good time. I got a ton of snowboarding in and most importantly got a lot of good friendship time in. Even on days we didn't hit the mountain we still ate a ton of good food, drank a lot of good beer, putzed around the village, watched a lot of Olympics when we could and played some local fighting games too. My favorite part was the outdoor hot tub our hotel had... after a long day of snowboarding it was the best way to unwind. They had a bigger thermal pool area but they tried to charge us like $90 to get in on the last day so we skipped that sadly but maybe next time.

Good times all around. Happy to be back home but not happy to have to come home right before yet another blizzard. At least I have the okay to work from home again this week but I'm also going a little stir crazy again after 3 days at home so I might try (subway permitting) to go in for a day or two this week. We will see!!!
