Drinking with Skeletons

02.09.2026

We are truly in the throes of winter because most of my free time spent last week was laying on the couch wrapped up in a blanket playing some sort of video game. I did get out and about a few times at least and now it's going to be a balmy 40 degrees by the end of the week so that's good. And I have exciting things happening in the next few weeks so I'll have better things to write about lol.

Last week was pretty chill at least, Friday my friends hosted a movie night and we watched my GOAT Little Miss Sunshine. Their internet ended up going down that night but thankfully I still own my DVD copy of it (from high school!) so we watched it on that instead. It's such an all timer movie for me, so funny, so sad, has a great soundtrack and I love sharing it with people who haven't seen it yet. Can't believe its 20th anniversary is this year, the rumor is they're doing a 4k blu-ray re-release so I might have to grab one of those if they do...

I'm getting the final touches done for the LAN party and the Canada trip too. I ordered a really stupid trophy to give out to the best Halo player and it showed up in the mail last week - I won't post a picture until after the party so I don't spoil it but it is Breaking Benjamin themed lol. And I did drop off my Xbox One to hopefully get fixed so we have an extra system, but I have a feeling it'll probably be cheaper to just get a new one on FB marketplace, which does suck because to me that feels wasteful. At least I was able to get the broken binding on my snowboard replaced just in time for our trip though!

Games I played last week... did some Counter Strike 2 with friends for the first time in a while. I have mixed feelings on CS, it's fun to play with friends but I'm so bad at it so I feel like I'm bringing the team down. The one good moment I had was when I was the last guy left on the team and I was hiding near the bomb and the last guy on the other team jumped right in front of me and I was able to finish him off and get the win so that felt pretty good but the rest of it I was mostly dead and spectating lol.

I also finished the original Doom last weekend! A game I have started many many times and never sat down and finished it until now. I thought it was really fun, loved all the different weapons, loved how moody and isolating it felt, and loved the feeling you get when you finally solve the puzzle of how to get out of the level. I'm playing Doom II now and it's even better than the first (even if it's a lot harder). Truly in my FPS era.
