Drinking with Skeletons

01.05.2026

First weekly post of the new year! And I almost forgot to actually write it because I vegged too hard after work lol.

I have started planning my Halo 3 LAN birthday party. In a couple weeks we are going to do a test run to see how everything works. The goal is to have three TVs running with Xbox 360 copies of Halo 3 since they work on all generation Xboxes and do 4 player split screen on each for a total of 12 players at once. Maybe more if we can swing another setup. I'm a little nervous about how we're going to fit everyone in the apartment of course but we'll make it work.

My big dumb idea though is I want to get one of those little participation trophies and make a really stupid one and have everyone vote on who's the best Halo player to see who wins it. I was going to repurpose a random pinball trophy I got (that was also repurposed to me when I won a tournament) but I learned you can just buy a shitty little engraved trophy online for under $10 so now I have to figure out what I want it to look like. One of the ideas I had was a trophy with a guy going hulk mode and ripping his shirt off and there's a little spot for a badge so I added one that had a camo controller that read GAMER but it's like $20 so we'll see. I don't know what I would want engraved on it but I have time to think. Definitely something about playing Halo at a gay guy's 32nd birthday party in the middle of February because why go out in the cold and have beers when you can stay inside and have beers and play Halo.

Last night Nathan, Michelle and I saw Marty Supreme and the night before I finally watched Uncut Gems. Loved both of them but I think Uncut Gems is my favorite of the two. Was really obsessed with the Oneohtrix Point Never scores for each of them too!! Last year according to Letterboxd I watched 43 movies which is definitely more than usual so we'll see if I watch even more this year.

Finally I forgot to mention that my mom got me a can of Spam for Christmas (Korean BBQ flavored) and I finally cooked with it this week. I've never had it before and was excited to try it out. I fried it up with a sauce I made with soy, ginger, garlic, fish sauce and brown sugar and had it over rice with a side of gochujang cucumbers. Honestly not bad. I feel like Spam is definitely better in smaller doses like on musubi instead of an actual meal so I'll have to try making that next time. And the original flavor not the weird KBBQ one lol.
